ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - Run for the Fallen is a nation wide event where people run or walk to honor servicemen and women who were killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. But Pennsylvania has never been a part of it, till now.
Gary and Tammi Ingham organized this run in memory of their son. They want people to put politics aside and come here to support the men and women fighting for this country.
Staff Sergeant Matt Ingham was killed in Afghanistan when his Marine Recon Unit was surrounded in January of this year. Ingham was mortally wounded, but was still able to call in air support and save the lives of other Marines and some afghan fighters.
The Inghams were touched when thousands of people came to their son’s funeral. They wanted to do something for all fallen soldiers. So they started organizing the Run for the Fallen here in Altoona. And family friend Lori Emig helped get things moving.
The walk is Saturday August 21st, from 9:00 until 1:00. Their goal is for everyone combined to walk or run a mile for ever person killed in Iraq and Afghanistan; right now that is almost 5,600.
