Updated: Wednesday Evening, January, 23rd
Reported by: Chief Meteorologist Joe Murgo

The coldest weather pattern since 2009 continued today but is showing signs that a break is coming. Despite some sunshine, the mercury failed to rise higher than the middle teens today. Clouds have increased once again and this disturbance will bring snow showers that will bring a covering to an inch or so in spots tonight. There still could be a leftover flurry early but then sunshine will return Thursday but it will remain cold with highs only in the teens. A fairly week storm system will bring clouds and a period of snow on Friday. While this will not be a major storm, it will bring a widespread few inches of snow to the region and there could be some travel problems. The good news is that this system will be a fast mover. Saturday will still be cold with some clouds and leftover flurries and snow showers. An area of high pressure will settle over the region and give us some sunshine Sunday. While it will still be chilly, it will not be as cold with highs in the upper 20s. The warming trend will continue early next week. As milder air presses into the region, there will be some clouds some snow showers or freezing drizzle on Monday. Then we'll have periods of rain Tuesday into Wednesday before slightly cooler air returns later next week. Though it will not be a repeat of this recent arctic blast.
