An elderly woman is in an area jail, accused of shooting her visiting nurse.
69-year-old Marlene Kanjora from West Decatur Township, Clearfield County, is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and related offenses.
Police say Kanjora got into an argument with her home care nurse over medication Thursday evening and fired a 22-caliber revolver into the left side of the woman's head.
Registered Nurse Erin Schaeffe, who's with Centre Home Care managed to drive herself to a neighbor's home, where coincidentally another nurse lived. The Good Samaritan applied pressure to the wound, until emergency personnel arrived.
Schaeffer was transported to Altoona Regional Health System where she had surgery to have the bullet removed and is now listed in fair condition.
Kenjora is being held on $1 million bond. According to the affidavit filed by police, Kanjora said she was sorry she shot her nurse and she didn't mean to hurt her. She just snapped.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 12.

The woman whether she is "elderly" at 69 years old is accountable and I am glad she is held at a million dollars bail. So far anyway, the legal system is not buying into the defense stated in this article. Nurses deserve respect, not abuse and if this "elderly woman" is not prosecuted as anyone else would be, this sets a precedent. Nurses take enough abuse while trying to provide care. Nurses don't deserve anyone else adding to the abuse by excusing this woman's actions. Perhaps if anyone thinks this woman should not be held accountable to the full extent of the law, then they might like to take her home and care for her?
