Deadly Day on Raystown Lake

RAYSTOWN LAKE, HUNTINGDON COUNTY - Three older men drowned in Raystown Lake on Sunday. The two unrelated deadly accidents on the same day attracted plenty of attention. The Lead Ranger for the Army Corps of Engineers at Raystown Lake said this is first time there have been three drownings on the lake in one day.
Two men from Franklin County lost their lives after they got out of their boat near the Aitch boat launch on Sunday afternoon. State police reported that 57 year old Jerry Broman and 71 year old Larry Newman, both from Chambersburg, got into the water and went under. It took an extensive search to recover both bodies.
In the other Sunday drowning, 71 year old Igor Kodavsky, a visitor from the Ukraine, was attempting a short swim to the shore near the Snyder's run boat launch when he went under. While he was pulled from the water by relatives, he could not be revived.
In both cases, the men were not wearing life vests or flotation devices which may have contributed to their deaths. These were the first drownings this year at Raystown Lake.
