NEW ORLEANS - With a little more than 13 minutes remaining in the third quarter of Super Bowl XLVII, suddenly half of the lights in the Superdome simply turned off.

The outage left the field a little darker, but Twitter lit up with information about what was going on, while others on Twitter took the opportunity to let the world know what else was going on during the big game.

WTAJ sports reporter Amy Gill tweeted a photo showing about half the lights turned off live from the Superdome just moments after the power outage saying, "Scoreboard is out. NFL monitors are out."

PBS had a different plan with Twitter and decided to promote its showing of Downton Abbey during the outage.

"This might be a good time - think about alternative programming. #SuperBowlBlackOut #WeHaveDowntonPBS," the PBS Twitter handle read, complete with hash-tags.

Major League Baseball even had a little fun with the outage, tweeting about the upcoming baseball season.

"We thought we'd take this brief pause to remind you pitchers and catchers report in 8 days," the MLB account tweeted.

The power was restored a little more than 30 minutes after the outage, and the cause of the blackout is still unknown.

The Baltimore Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.
