There's a significant increase in people applying for concealed gun permits in our region and that's causing a backlog.

The Blair County Sheriff tells WTAJ News, normally they see 25 requests for a concealed permit a day. Now it's as many as 88. This is happening all over the state and it's causing a huge backlog in the background check process.

Starting Thursday, the Blair County Sheriffs office started asking people to drop off the application and wait until they're called to return and get it. That could take days. The sherriff says there are similar backlogs with regular gun permits right now.

There are only 2 handgun permits in PA, a sportsman's permit, which is stupid because it doesn't allow you to do anything you can't already do without a permit, and a License to carry concealed, which also allows you to carry a loaded handgun in a vehicle.

Hey John I'm a little confused on your recent story about delays in getting gun permits. In Huntingdon Co we are issued a PA license to carry firearms, this covers concealed carry. PA for the most part is an open carry state, meaning no license required to open carry in most places in PA. Can you please explain the difference between a PA concealed carry permit and a "regular" gun permit? Thanks
