ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY - His mother and sister barely escaped the flames.  Police charged Aaron Dishong with setting the fire. They say he was trying to kill an ex girlfriend that he thought was staying there.  Darrel's mother Brandy Etchison was released from the hospital just two days ago.

The Etchison's first child, 3-year-old Darrel Jr is dead. After 15 years of trying, Brandy Etchison calls "DJ", her miracle child.

"...I was told I could never have kids and he was my first one you know?"

Now without DJ, and without a home, Brandy says the Etchisons are struggling.

"We're in a hotel right now. "Did you have insurance?" No."

Joanne Helsel's a family friend. She's known DJ since he was born.

"He's amazing. He's always so sweet. Not a bad bone in his body. Played with anybody and everybody."

Helsel's taken them in until they can get back on their feet.

"I know it's going to take some time, in a new home. And I know it's going to you know grieve, and come at peace with this, they'll need a lot of counseling.

Helsel's known Brandy Etchison for years.  She says she's a good person, who's lost most of her support system, and needs help now, more than ever.

"She lost her grand parents who were always there for her..,  I was always there and I always will be. And even more so after this."

Brandy Etchison's been called a hero for saving her 2-year-old daughter Madison, and alerting neighbors of the fire, all after jumping out of a second floor window. Her husband Darrell Sr agrees.

"She's more than a hero; she's awesome, best partner in the world."

But Brandy doesn't feel like a hero.

"I do take credit for saving my daughter, but what about my son, you know? Its it should have been me in there instead of him. He's only three, but he didn't even get to live his life."

While the Etchisons will never have their son back, they do need a new place to live. There's a family fund set up at M&T Bank where they're accepting donations. If you'd like more information on how to help or to send well wishes, visit the facebook page set up in DJ's name, you can find it here:
