BROOKVILLE,
"A lot of the vehicles being produced are bi fuel. They will run on CNG when they run out of CNG they will go to gasoline or diesel fuel" said Beatty.
CNG costs about $2.00 a gallon and has near the same mileage as gasoline though, converting a car costs between $6,000 and $8,000. Beatty says within about 50,000 miles this pays for itself and the parts can be used in car after car.
"I don't fully expect CNG to fully replace oil. It's just an alternative" said Beatty.
A
Between his businesses and family members Rick Horner has purchased over a dozen CNG machines.
"It's a substantial savings and there's no loss of power. It just works really well" he said.
He and Beatty agree it helps the local economy and creates jobs.
A reason why not everyone is converting is for one the expense. Another point people make is they are unsure how long natural gas will last and/or be available. Some people are also against the technique used to drill for natural gas. Others say there are not enough stations. There are around 300,000 gas stations in the world compared to 1,100 CNG stations.
Beatty says instead of having a Convenience Store at the new Brookville Station he will have an education center for anyone interested in learning more and/or converting.
