DUNCANSVILLE, BLAIR COUNTY - Three ambulances and their crews returned to this region from New Jersey on this Friday afternoon.  These local emergency crews spent last week on disaster duty.  They were members of the Southern Alleghenies Emergency Medical strike force team.

In the immediate aftermath of the Hurricane Sandy slamming into New York and New Jersey,  a team of eight ambulances from the region  was called up to help.  Part of the team came back on Monday, the rest of them returned on this Friday.

The fully loaded ambulances and their crews rolled into their home base off of State Route 22 near Duncansville on Friday afternoon completing their week plus long mission of mercy in New Jersey. The ambulance crews based in Altoona and Johnstown had worked became part a huge relief effort to support the storm ravaged emergency crews based along the Atlantic Coast.

The ambulance crews from this region were able to lend some valuable assistance to the local disaster already stretched very thin by the devastation all around.  Crew members say they were pleased to be part of the national relief effort because of what they say on the ground.

All of the Southern Alleghenies Strike team members from the Hurricane Sandy relief have now returned to this region.  But organizers of the effort say their strike force will be ready to go when the next disaster strikes.
