Students Ready For Power Outages?

"Didn't expect this storm coming through, I didn't think it would hit central PA, so it's kind of just a shock..."

Gabriel Revnew lives in a house on campus, but even with Sandy bearing down, he procrastinated when getting supplies.

"I've actually waited kind of till the last minute, a couple of us are going out tonight, we've noticed a lot of the downtown areas have sold out of water, just quick snacks that people can use. "

Some students like Freshmen Rachel Mack and Kelsey Conrad still aren't prepared.

"So what happens if the power goes out?"

"We get flashlights... Our phones..."

"How would you guys charge your phones if the power goes out?"

"I guess we wouldn't' charge our phones, I don't know..."

Mack and Conrad live in the dorms on campus, but don't know what happens if their dorm loses power.

"What sorts of things have they told you in the power goes out?"

"They haven't told us."

Kelly Kurlyak shares a place with 3 roommates off campus. She says she's ready, she's got batteries, food, and water.

She's even filling her bathtub for extra water. But we took it a step further, and asked her to cut her circuit breaker, to see what it could really be like if her lights went out for days.

Now, with a real feel for what could be coming. Kelly says her and her roommates will play it safe.

"...Just kind of keep everybody safe, if its too dangerous to walk to class if class isn't cancelled, stay inside, but besides that, just keep everyone kind of together and safe."

As of 11pm Sunday night, PSU's State College campus hasn't cancelled classes, but that could change.

If you do lose power, First Energy says to report it, the Penn Elec outage number is 1-888-LIGHTSS.
