Fracking Concerns Presented

By: Kevin Flanigan
Updated: October 24, 2012
WASHINGTON D.C. - A number of environmental groups are calling on the Federal Government to place new restrictions on fracking for natural gas.

Seventeen different organizations, including three from Pennsylvania, have called on the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington to implement a program of mandatory reporting of all hazardous chemicals used in the search for natural gas.

Supporters say significant damage is being done to water resources as a result of the drilling operations.  They contend that the gas drilling industry is releasing significant amounts of dangerous chemicals into the environment.  It's their position that the proper listing of chemicals used by the drilling industry will go a long way toward limiting future water and air pollution.
