A hunter in Adams County shot a doe that could be infected with chronic wasting disease today.

The deer was killed on a farm at 1305 New Chester Road in New Oxford - Adams County.  It had managed to escape from a neighboring farm when officials were moving a herd for testing.

The deer known as Pink 23 because of a pink farm tag had been quarantined since October - when the first case of the disease was discovered in Pennsylvania.

Chronic Wasting Disease attacks the brains of infected antlered animals such as deer, elk and moose.  So far only two deer have tested positive for the disease and currently 27 farms in 14 counties are quarantined.

What would have happened if that tag would have somehow came off the animal??? Some family could have had some serious problems....
