The FDA warns that a popular five-day antibiotic can cause a potentially fatal irregular heart rhythm.

The agency says those most a risk from azithromycin (zithromax, zmax or a zpak) includes people who already have heart issues such as a slower than normal heart rate or people who take drugs to treat abnormal heart rhythms.

The study reported an increase in the risk of deaths in persons treated with a Zpak compared to persons treated with other antibiotics  or no drug.
