A powerful cold front is pushing into the region. Ahead of the front it was springlike today with the mercury reaching up to near 60. A band of gusty showers moved through the region during the midday hours that sparked off severe thunderstorm warnings due to some damaging wind gusts. Behind that line, a steadier rainfall has developed across the region and will continue early tonight. The actual front will make it's way through the area during the middle of the night with another band of gusty showers followed by scattered flurries and snow showers by dawn. Thursday will be quite windy and much colder. Temperatures will start in the 20s to lower 30s and will actually come down a bit during the day with scattered snow showers that will bring a coating to perhaps an inch or so in the valleys with a few inches possible on some of the ridges. Some of the wind gusts later in the night into Thursday will reach over 45 mph and because of that, a wind advisory is in effect for the entire region through noon Thursday. Friday will be colder with a gusty wind, variable cloudiness and scattered flurries and snow showers. Temperatures will only rise to the teens in the higher elevations to the lower 20s in the valleys. Saturday will also be cold with a mix of clouds and sunshine. There'll be some more flurries and snow showers later Saturday into Sunday. Another round of flurries and snow showers will occur later Monday into Tuesday. Temperatures will drive to near average by next week.
