Looking at the unseasonably warm temperatures the last couple days and comparing them to the same time last year, and something interesting appears: there was a warm up like this last January.
The high of 57 recorded on January 13 of this year is similar to what we saw on January 6, 2012: 57 for a high and 35 for the low (the low so far on the 13th is 36).
The difference between 53 weeks ago and now is that there was not a 30+ temperature swing from the 10th to the 13th like January 3-6, 2012. The high on the 10th was 40. So far this month a low of 9 was recorded on the morning of the 3rd this year while January 3rd and 4th, 2012 both saw low temperatures of 5.
Last year temperatures stayed in the 40s for most of the week following the two 50 days. About an inch of rain was recorded and a small amount of snow. This year temperatures will drop into the 20s by the end of the week.
