SOMERSET TWP, SOMERSET - Around 5:00 Sunday morning State Police say Tyler Vought of Berlin was driving down Route 219 when he tried to avoid hitting a deer.

He lost control and hit a pole and a natural gas line. The gas line ruptured and quickly, the gas escaped. The neighborhood was evacuated.

Within 2 hours Columbia Gas capped the leak. The roadway was closed for three hours. Residents were then allowed back into their homes.
