The temporary restrictions apply to the children's and women's inpatient units at Geisinger Medical Center.
They're prompted by the seasonal increase in pediatric respiratory syncytial virus or RSV. It infects the lungs and breathing passages.
Most healthy people recover, but the infection can be severe in infants. According to the Centers for Disease Control, RSV is the most common cause of lung inflammation and pneumonia in children under one.
RSV infections generally occur from November to April.
