Sandy Forces Cancellation of Blood Drives

By: WTAJ Staff
Updated: October 29, 2012
Hurricane Sandy has forced the cancellation of about 100 blood drives, according to www.redcross.org

The cancellations have resulted in a shortfall of about 3,200 blood and platelet donations. The situation is likely to get worse as the storm passes through.

The Red Cross has moved blood and blood products to those areas most likely to be affected by Sandy. The long term effects are expected to be significant.

People who live in unaffected areas are urged to schedule a donation appointment as soon as possible.

To schedule a donation appointment, visit www.redcross.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS
