JEFFERSON COUNTY - Around July a group of ladies in Central Pennsylvania came together and decided they wanted to form a roller derby team. They put up flyers and asked ladies to come out and try the sport. At the first practice 15 women showed up to play for the Northern Allegheny Roller Derby league. They not only showed up, they were ready to lace up, skate and hit somebody.

Months later, the team has grown to about 25 women who say they have became "obsessed" with the derby life. The people who were once wobbily on wheels are taking to the track and finding themselves empowered.

They say it is great o be involved in a sport that is just for women and add that while they are beating eachother up they are also laughing and picking eachother up when they fall.

They practice every Tuesday and Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 at the Edgewood Rink in DuBois. For more on the team visit their Facebook The Northern Allegheny Roller Derby League.
