The real estate representative agreement was approved on Tuesday morning by the County Commissioners at their weekly meeting in Hollidaysburg. The agreement sets a base value for the Valley View Nursing Home at $13.5 million.
While there is no guarantee the County could would see that sort of offer from firms interested in owning the 240 bed nursing home, the County leaders are interested in the selling the home to protect the county's bottom line.
There were just a handful of workers on hand for this meeting when the real estate firm was hired. But following the session they made it clear they plan to fight any sale and expressed disappointment they are not included in talks on the home's future.
The employees say they are fighting for not only for their jobs but to protect the patients they care for in the County owned facility. In drawing up any request for proposals for this nursing home, the County Commissioners say they plan to take steps to protect both the residents and the county workers.
