Eating beans, chickpeas or lentils seems to be good for blood sugar levels and blood pressure in people with diabetes. Beans are low-glycemic, meaning they don't cause blood sugar levels to spike.

Researchers say eating  a cup of legumes, like beans, every day along with other low glycemic foods kept blood sugar levels under control and reduced blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of heart problems in diabetics.

Results of the study are in the Archives of Internal Medicine.

Author and dietitian Ellie Krieger says it's easy to add beans to the diet in recipes that both diabetics and non-diabetics will enjoy.
