Leaf Collection Begins in Blair County

ALTOONA, BLAIR COUNTY --- The IRC (Intermunicipal Relations Committee) Municipalities will be having fall yard waste collections for residents in the City of Altoona, Hollidaysburg Borough, Logan Township, and Tyrone Borough.

Materials collected at the curbside will be composted or mulched at the IRC Compost Facility, located on Blacksnake Road. The Compost Facility is open to the public for the drop-off of organics or recyclables and for the purchase of mulch or compost.

Municipal yard waste collections include the following organic material. Leaves and grass clippings should be placed in paper bags and not contain other foreign material. Please DO NOT use tape to seal the bags, simply roll the top down. Bags over 50lbs. will not be collected. Brush should be less than six feet in length and less than 3 inches in diameter. Whole trees, stumps, and root balls will not be collected.

In the City of Altoona prepared yard waste will be collected at the curbside from October 22 to November 26. Collections will take place on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in the designated zone.

Beginning on October 22 through December 7 prepared yard waste will be collected throughout all of Logan Township. Residents of Logan Township may also rake leaves to the curbside.

Hollidaysburg Borough Public Works Department will be picking up yard waste on the East side of Penn Street and East side of Borough on Mondays. The West side of Penn Street and West side of the Borough will be collected on Tuesdays. The collection will begin on October 1 and continue thru December 4.

Beginning on October 1 through December 3 prepared yard waste will be collected throughout all of Tyrone Borough. Collection will occur Borough wide every Monday.

Blair Township will offer a leaf collection to residents on October 15, 16, 22, & 23 and November 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, & 20. Leaves are to be placed at the curbside in brown paper leaf bags.
