A huge truck gets unveiled at Thursday's Board of Supervisors meeting, It's Logan Township's new "Sert" truck.
It's called a LENCO Bearcat. It was purchased with grant money from the Department of Homeland Security. It can detect gas, biological and nuclear weapons, and can even stop 50 caliber machine gun fire. Ron Heller, Logan Township's Chief of Police, says that if they hadn't gotten this vehicle, and a disaster happened in this area, they would have been waiting a while.
"...the closest thing we'd have to a vehicle would be the Pennsylvania State Police, which would probably have to come out of Hershey, Pennsylvania, we're talking 3 1/2 hours away or so, Pittsburgh has a vehicle also, and for them to come this far, and it's a much bigger vehicle, it would take about 4 hours, so by that time, most events are over."
The truck will reside in Logan Township, but will be available for use to all the members of the "South Central Mountain Region Task Force".
That includes Blair, Centre, Bedford, Fulton, and Huntingdon counties among others.
