BROOKVILLE, JEFFERSON COUNTY - At 7:45 Wednesday morning, 200 kids in the Brookville School District put one foot in front of the other, ditched their buses and walked to school.

The trek was part of International Walk to School Day. An event that promotes exercise, safe walking/biking routes for students and environmental protection. This was the first time Brookville participated. Kids, parents and staff enjoyed the mile walk to class.

Some explained the hills were tough, but they liked walking with their friends. One student, Rilee, faced the challenge of crutches. She still wanted to walk and with her BFF, sister and mom she made the trek to school.

The District plans to host the walk again next year and students said they would glady participate.
