STATE COLLEGE, CENTRE COUNTY - The US Navy is honoring a local Medal of Honor winner by naming a Destroyer after him. The Navy will commission the USS Michael Murphy this Saturday.
Lieutenant Murphy was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions in Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan back in June, 2005. The Navy Seal Trident will be on the USS Michael Murphy to honor his service in the Seals.
The Navy says the new guided missile destroyer is one of the best in the world and represents the backbone of the surface fleet.
