UNIVERSITY PARK, CENTRE COUNTY - Penn State students and veterans jump into action after a newly dedicated memorial is defaced.

On the 14th, the Veteran's Plaza next to Old Main on Penn State's University Park Campus was dedicated to Medal of Honor recipient Lieutenant Michael Murphy. Just over a week later it was defaced.

But Carl Chindblom and a group of other students wouldn't let it stay that way. They saw pictures that showed BMX tire tracks and footprints all over the memorial on the university's Facebook page. Chindblom is an Army Veteran. So he and other veterans and students brought some cleaning products and got to work. They cleaned up most of the damage, and they promised they'd be watching so it doesn't happen again.

Police are asking anyone who knows anything about the vandalism to give them a call.
