BANKS TWP., INDIANA COUNTY - Around 7:00 Thursday morning State Police in Punxsutawney and the Mahaffey Fire Department were called to a crash along Route 36 in Banks Township, Indiana County.

A pick-up truck driven by 22-year-old Stephen Yamrick of Glen Campbell was driving up the road when he collided with the coal truck. The coal truck, 42 year old Bryan Johnson of Mahaffey, jumped from his vehicle to try to help the man out of his truck, but it was too late and the vehicles burst into flames.

The Indiana County Coroner told Your News Leader the man died on impact. The coal truck driver was uninjured.

Gallons of fuel spilled across the roadway and Hazmat crews were called in to clean the scene. Penndot closed the roadway and expected it to be back open around noon Thursday.

The tow-truck company out of Punxsutawney also assisted.
