Altoona Community Theatre hosts SeptemBeerFest

Altoona Community Theatre will kick off its 2012-2013 Season to Make You Smile by raising a glass at a new fundraising event a few days before its first show of the year, "The Fox on the Fairway," opens.  Although to be truthful, it's a mug they'll be raising ... several actually ... as they host their first-ever SeptemBeerFest at the Lakemont Park Picnic Pavilions this Sunday, September 16, from 1 to 4 p.m.

According to ACT Operations Manager Steven C. Helsel, the new fund-raiser is a beer "sampling" focusing on Autumn brews.  "ACT was trying to come up with a new event to supplement the other fund-raisers we do and, because there are always new beers being released around the time we open our season, it seemed a good way to start our year.  We've discovered since that other theatres in areas of the state host similar events, confirming something we've known for quite a while ... theatre people happen to like beer!"

Sheetz, Inc., is partnering with ACT on the SeptemBeerFest, which should have approximately 30 different varieties to try.

Tickets for ACT's SeptemBeerFest are $30 in advance ($35 at the gate) and include three hours of beer tasting, a 5-ounce souvenir mini-stein, two hot dogs and sauerkraut and chips and pretzels.  Felix and the Hurricanes will be playing the Lakemont Park Pavilions stage and six large flatscreens in one of the pavilions will be broadcasting the pre-game for Sunday's Steelers-Jets telecast and other football footage.

Tickets can only be purchased online! Purchase SeptemBEER Tickets here.

All proceeds benefit ACT's 2012-2013 season at the Historic Mishler Theatre, during which the troupe will present the adult golfing comedy "The Fox on the Fairway," a new Broadway musical adaptation of "A Christmas Carol," the backstage farce "Noises Off" and Stephen Sondheim's Roman romp of a musical "A Funny Thing Happpened on the Way to the Forum."  Subscriptions are currently available for $60 per person to enjoy all four shows.
