SAINT MARYS, ELK COUNTY - Basketball is a tradition in Saint Marys; a pass time many people enjoy. Forty years ago, Denny Posteraro, and his colleague, started the Pizza Tournament and the tradition is going strong.

Each Friday night, anyone can come to Memorial Park to participate in the tournament. It consists of 3 on 3 basketball and the winning team receive a t-shirt and a medium pizza. Every Friday night there is a new winner and teams have to split up so they do not dominate.

Despite the heat, Friday night, there is expected to be 20 plus teams competing.  Ben and Luke Daghir have been playing in the tournament since they were 13.

"Playing with some older guys that I looked up to and just having a good time on a friday night" said Ben.

"I enjoy seeing people from Brockway, DuBois, Emporium, Ridgway" adds Luke.

Beyond all of the fun and games, it really comes down to the prize and Ben won his first tournament just 2 weeks ago.

"I am still really excited about it. " said Ben.

It is free to play. Games start at the courts at 7:00pm and normally last through 10:00pm.
