Declaration of Independence Shares Link with Central PA

Boalsburg is home to the famous Boal Mansion, a chapel from Christopher Columbus, and a piece of the cross that Jesus was crucified on, but did you know, it also has a special connection to the Declaration of Independence?

 

CEO of the Boal Mansion Museum, Christopher Lee traces his family history back to Richard Henry Lee, who offered the resolution for independence in Congress that later became the Declaration of Independence, which he then signed in July of 1776.

 

Richard Henry Lee's portrait and original signature will be on display this Sunday, July 1st in Boalsburg in a Garden Party for the Declaration of Independence.

 

The Garden Party will include a reading of the Declaration, a butterfly garden tour by Penn State Master Gardeners, an 18th century style salon discussion of the Declaration of Independence, and a free tour of the Columbus Chapel and Boal Mansion Museum.
