HARRISBURG - Some Pennsylvania seniors and WIC participants will now have access to fresh, local food.

The state agriculture secretary announced Friday a new farmers market program that offers vouchers to eligible seniors and WIC participants across the state.

Each recipient will receive four $5 vouchers to buy fresh, local produce at farmers markets and farm stands across pa.

"We are proud that Pennsylvania takes an active role in promoting and funding the farmer's market nutritional program. Pennsylvania is one of the few states in the nation that provides state funding in addition to federal grants helping the program statewide," Agriculture Secretary, George Greig.

There are nearly 200 farmers markets and nearly 1,200 roadside farm stands in Pennsylvania participating in the program.
