EBENSBURG, CAMBRIA COUNTY -Comic books aren't just for kids anymore. The number one movie in the country right now is based on a comic book. And Saturday brand new fans and loyal customers had a chance to get a free comic book.

The first Saturday in May is Free Comic Book Day. Independent comic shops around the county give away free comic books. It's the third year for Bob Weiland at Codex Comics in Ebensburg.

Storm Troopers from the 501st Legion: Garrison Carida greeted people coming in to pick up their free comic. Dave Johnston will put on his uniform and go just about anywhere.

In addition to the costumes and free comics like the Avengers and DC's New 52 local authors and artists were inside the store showing off their work. Tod Smith has drawn Star Wars sketch cards for Lucasfilm since 2007, now he's working with the Walking Dead. And author/artist T.C. McMullen uses local places and history in her novels. They were both at Codex Saturday showing off their work.

And they say Free Comic Book day is a great way to get the interest of the next generation of superheroes.
