Fifty Years of Food

CURWENSVILLE, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - In 1962 Jack Goodman was known in Curwensville as a great meat market person.

He was asked to open Goodman's IGA and accepted.

At 29, his daughter Carole left teaching and began working at the store. Now, Carole faces retirement and four generations of Goodman's have worked there.

"It makes us very proud. It has been a joy to serve the community" said Michaels.

On Monday, three generations were there working including Carole's grand-daughter, Lauren Holland.

"I love the fact that we are the only grocery store around here and it's so family orientated and everyone knows everyone and we treat them like family and they treat us like family" she said.

This concept has never changed though the prices have. A grand opening poster from 50 years ago lists lettuce at 10 cents a head and a loaf of bread.

All throughout the week Goodman's will have prizes and special savings to celebrate.
