Emergency crews have already been called out to battle a number of wildfires including one recently near the Horseshoe Curve in Blair County. The people in charge of the efforts to control these fires say it makes sense to raise public awareness about the very dry conditions.
The Blair County Supervisor for the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources- Bureau of Forestry says declarations like this are helping in raising public awareness of the wildfire damage. Especially this year when the fire season seems to be of to an early start, any effort to encourage people to recognize the danger of outdoor burning is seen as a step in the right direction.
Wildfire prevention week runs through Saturday. With State Officials predicting a warm and dry spring, the wildfire danger in the region is expected to last well into May this year.
