Cherry Surprise Cake

Cherry Surprise Cake

Ingredients:
2 C. Flour
1 C. Sugar
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 tsp. Baking Powder
1 Stick Cold Butter
2 Eggs
1/2 C. Milk
1 tsp. Vanilla

Cherry Mixture:
1 Can cherry pie filling
1/4 C. sugar

First combine dry ingredients.  Next cut cold butter into the dry mix until crumbly.  Take out 1/4 cup of this mixture and save to use for the topping later.  Make a well in the remaining mixture and, using a fork, lightly whisk.  Add the milk and vanilla and mix by hand until well blended.  (The mixture will be lumpy. 
Spread mixture into a 9x13" greased cake pan.
In a separate bowl, combine canned cherries and 1/4 cup of sugar.  Drop randomly by spoonfuls onto the cake batter.  Sprinkle remaining crumb mixture on top.  Bake 325 for 45 minutes.
