An area hospital is offering a free prostate cancer screening this weekend. In recognition of Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, J.C. Blair Medical Services, Inc. is hosting a free preventive health prostate screening day on Saturday, September 20, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until noon.

Men between the ages of 50 and 75, or 40 to 50 with a family history, and who have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer can schedule an appointment on a first come, first served basis. To make an appointment, calling J.C. Blair Urologist Dr. Spencer Long's Office at (814) 643-8424.

For American men, prostate cancer is the second most common form of cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death. After age 50, the chance of developing prostate cancer increases significantly. Each year, 28,000 men die of prostate cancer, but many of those deaths could be prevented through early detection.
