Tough Mudder Competition the Toughest

ALLENTOWN, LEHIGH COUNTY - Why would someone run seven miles up and down ski slopes, crawling through gravel, mud, and snow, just to run through fire? To be called a real "Tough Mudder" of course!

Monday through Friday Keith Duck and Harry Harr work at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center. But the first Sunday in May they were more like superheroes. They were Tough Mudders. Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, and the Na'vi from Avatar were there too. They don't have real super powers, so they had to train. They were both looking for a challenge. And Keith had another reason. He's dedicating his Tough Mudder run to his little brother's memory. So they hit the gym hard for three months. They lifted more, swam more and ran a lot more.

Tough Mudder started with a pledge to help their fellow Mudders. Then it was down the slope and back up again only to crawl through snow. But Tough Mudder is more than just a foot race. They had to carry logs part of the way. Some did it alone, some worked as a team.  They swam, climbed walls, and hit a really big slip and slide all to cheers and inspirational music. They finished off the race by running through fire.

Not everyone made it. Some people got hurt. But there were always other Mudders to help you cross the finish line. And Keith knows his brother was watching, and would be proud that he did it for him.

Tough Mudder raised more than 150 thousand dollars for the Wounded Warrior project. And there are more than a dozen more Tough Mudder events scheduled throughout the country.
