Auto industry analysts say General Motors is making a significant recovery following its its bankruptcy last year. The auto giant has announce plans to speed up the re-payment of more than $8 billion borrowed from the Federal Government.
Much of the improvement comes from G-M slashing its debt load and workforce as part of its bankruptcy reorganization last year.
While the company does appear to be making progress in its recovery, the auto giant is still a long way from regaining its old blue-chip status.
The company remains more than 70 % government-owned and lost more than $3 billion in the fourth quarter of last year alone.
Still G-M sales were up by 43 % last month when compared with the year before.
And cars and trucks produced by G-M are now getting high marks from some consumer groups.
A new poll just released reveals a growing number of American consumers now believe that cars made in this country are just as safe an reliable as those made by some foreign competitors. The results made be due in part to the recent troubles of Toyota.
