CLEARFIELD---Clearfield County Crimestoppers and the District Attorney began their Fugitive of the Week program just four weeks ago, and already three of the four fugitives have been caught. The other was located today, and police were reportedly in route to arrest him in Kentucky.

Crimestoppers wanted to implement a program that would get residents involved with keeping their own streets safe from dangerous criminals, but they didn't quite expect the response they've gotten since launching the Fugitive of the Week program.

"We're getting a volume of tips," said Clearfield County District Attorney William Shaw, "I haven't been counting them, but I can say it's in the dozens, probably approaching hundreds."

Some redidents think this project is long overdue in the area, but are hoping to see a drop in crime as imore fugitives are captured.

Shaw said anonymous tips have directly led to all the Fugitive of the Week arrests, and that it's not just Clearfield County residents providing the information.

"One of the folks was captured in Brook Park, OH, and we received calls from Brook Park, OH that they saw the information, and by golly they rounded that fugitive up."

A new Fugitive of the Week is announced each Monday. Organizers want to stress that tipsters can reamain completely anonymous if they wish, and that the information from those tips is the reason they're having so much success with this program.
