Curve Swept In Double-Header

ALTOONA, PA – Bowie southpaw Brian Matusz had a no hitter through 4.2 innings as the Bowie Baysox defeated the Altoona Curve in game one of Saturday’s double-header 5-1 at Blair County Ballpark.
 
Matusz (2-0) finished the day with 5.1 innings pitched giving up one run on just three hits and struck out five in his second double-A start of the season.
 
Bowie jumped out early on the Curve picking up three runs in the top of the first inning on a single by Eric Crozier, followed by a triple by Michael Costanzo. Costanzo would then score the third run on a ground out. 
 
Bowie continued to add on in the third and fifth innings with runs scoring on a Crozier double and a Miguel Abreu single.Crozier finished game one 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and three runs scored for Bowie.
 
The Curve got on the board in the fifth inning on a single by catcher Milver Reyes.  Gorkys Hernandez singled and Jose Tabata doubled for the other two hits for the Curve in game one.

ALTOONA, Pa – The Altoona Curve bats were silenced by the Bowie Baysox in the nightcap of a doubleheader on Saturday night, falling 5-0.  The loss is the third straight for the Curve.

Right-hander Sean Smith was tagged with the loss after he tossed five plus innings, allowing five runs on five hits.  The big hit came in the top of the sixth inning when he permitted a grand slam to Bowie’s Mike Costanzo. 

The Altoona Curve bats were stymied all night long by duo of righties Fredy Deza and James Hoey.  Deza allowed just three hits over 5.0 innings, while Hoey tossed 2.0 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out three batters.

The Altoona Curve (26-49) will return to action on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. in the fourth game of the five-game series.  On the mound for Altoona will be LHP Kyle Bloom (1-4, 3.26) while the Baysox (41-33) will counter with righty Tim Bascom (2-0, 1.89).  Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and all fans can enjoy a spectacular post-game fireworks show.  All kids ages 14 and under can run the bases.  Great seats still remain for Sunday’s game and the rest of the Curve homestand, which runs through Sunday and can be obtained by calling 877-99-CURVE, online at AltoonaCurve.com or in person at the Blair County Ballpark ticket windows.
