A couple of local sporting mascots gave some Blair County veterans a Valentines surprise.

As part of National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week the Pittsburgh Parrot and Al Tuna paid a special visit to veterans at the James Van Zandt VA Medical Center Tuesday.

The week long celebration that pays tribute to hospitalized vets has been a mainstay since 1978.

Carolyn Donaldson and  John Clay  also visited veterans Wednesday to pass out valentines made by area school kids and salute the vets for their service.

Members of the Penn State Football team visited Thursday (see separate story).
