A new drug combination shows promise  in treating brain cancer.

The drug  Avastin, shrinks tumors briefly in patients with an aggressive brain cancer, but then they often grow again and spread throughout the brain.

Researchers at the Mayo Clinic found that pairing Avastin with a second drug called dasatinib stopped the spread of tumors in a small group of patients. A larger trial is underway.
Researchers next will work to identify which patients benefit the most from this new treatment, which do not, and why.
