Local Lawmakers React to Budget

By: Ben Manning
Updated: February 7, 2013
HARRISBURG - Local lawmakers say the Governor's budget is only a starting place. They all think it will undergo some changes, but some of them want more changes than others.

Republican Representative Kerry Benninghoff out of Centre County thinks people should be glad that there are no new taxes. And he's glad the governor's proposal is giving more money to repair roads and bridges in PA.

But Democratic Representative Bryan Barbin from Cambria doesn't think the Governor is giving enough money to the project right. He says there isn't enough money in the plan to handle all the problem areas, and he doesn't think Blair or Cambria Counties will see any work.

Even members of Governor Corbett's own party were hoping to see more money for projects they care about, like Jerry Stern and the tourism committee.

But Democratic Senator John Wozniak is worried that all the money promised will only be there if the governor can push through his ideas about selling the lottery and the state wine and spirits stores.
