A compound in broccoli, cauliflower and other cabbage vegetables may one day help fight leukemia.

Scientists at Baylor College found that a concentrated form of the compound sulforaphane can kill leukemia cells in the lab. More study is needed but researchers believe the compound may also be effective against other blood cancers.

They used a concentrated purified form of the compound  so eating broccoli won't give you the same benefit. Studies have shown that people who eat a diet rich in cruciferous vegetables  like broccoli have a lower risk of some cancers.
