Dr. David Ledbetter is the Chief Scientific Officer at Geisinger and co-author of the study. He says that chromosomal micro-array analysis or CMA samples the entire human genome at a very high resolution and is more accurate in diagnosing development delays and birth defects.
"CMA testing can assist immeasurably in the evaluation or confirmation of developmental disorders," Dr. Ledbetter said, "leading to earlier diagnosis and intervention and a significantly improved outcomes for the patients and their families."
The study was published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
