WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The President met with leaders in Congress Friday to avoid a "fiscal cliff" of tax increases and spending cuts due to take effect at the end of the year.

Economists say if that Congress does not act, the issue could send the economy into another recession.

The White House and Republicans in Congress have been at odds on how to address the issue. President Obama wants to raise taxes on the wealthiest Americans while Conservatives say they will fight any tax increases.
