WWII Veteran's Story

DUBOIS, CLEARFIELD COUNTY - Leo Zawislak of DuBois served in the Navy during World War II. Now over 60 years later, he was invited to the World War II Memorial Ceremony in Washington D.C. on Veteran's Day to place a wreath on the memorial.
For Zawislak's family it was an exciting moment and one they will not soon forget. His daughter, Kathy Bowser said she wrote a letter explaing her dad would be going to visit the memorial and then, she received a letter back asking if he wanted to be part of the ceremony.
Zawislak said participating in the ceremony was a proud moment for him. His family, including, 8 great grandchildren were there.
His daughter adds it was an emotional afternoon as so many people thanked him for his service. She said even strangers wanted their picture with this purple heart recipient.
