Voter ID Law Remains

Pennsylvania voters will be required to show identification when they head to the polls in November.

Pennsylvania's commonwealth court today upheld the mandatory voter ID legislation.

Governor Tom Corbett says the new requirements will go along way toward making sure that only registered voters are allowed to cast ballots.

But Democrats argue that the new identification requirements are unnecessary and will keep plenty of legitimate Pennsylvania voters away from the polls.

"It was very very clear from the testimony that was presented, very very clear, that there was no evidence that would support voter identification, voter impersonation, was a problem in this Commonwealth.  Not a single bit of evidence was presented to demonstrate that fact," said PA Democratic Leader Sen. Jay Costa from Allegheny County

Democratic leaders of the state senate say they plan to file an immediate appeal of today's ruling to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Supporters of the ID ruling predict that challenge will be turned down as well.
