US Congress: Battle for 12th District

With the congressional map in Pennsylvania changing, one of two Democrats vying for District 12 was forced out. The battle came down to Jason Altmire and Mark Critz. They are both incumbent congressman from 2 districts that will merge into one. Critz took 54% of the vote and Altmire conceded at the end of the night.
Critz topped the 44-year-old Altmire in the new created 12th Congressional District.
This was one of the few congressional races nationally this primary that saw sitting House incumbents battling it out. This battle was due to the redistricting and created a very tough campaign that caused a lot of national interest. Recently Altmire was seen as the favorite in some polls. Most of the district is already in the area that Altmire represented. Critz received strong union support especially from the United Steelworkers.
