Voter ID Bill Opposition

JOHNSTOWN, CAMBRIA COUNTY - A local branch of the NAACP is speaking out against the Voter ID bill.

The Johnstown Executive Committee for the NAACP met Monday night and discussed the bill that requires people to show identification before they cast a vote. They say even if the state ID's are free; it will still be difficult for people like the elderly or poor to travel to get them. They think this is an attempt to try and cut down on democratic voters before the presidential election.

And the president says the whole thing is a waste of time and money because the state would be creating a level of bureaucracy to solve a problem that wasn't there.

The Voter ID bill already passed the Senate.  The House of Representatives could vote on it Tuesday. And the Governor has indicated that he will sign it.

I have a hard time believing that the NAACP has a problem with voter ID. This procedure I consider standard and as simple common sense, due to Russian spies and other political threats to our country, that ID should be a rudimentary step in ANY voting procedure. I as an African American am ashamed and perplexed at this unnecessary outrage. It makes us look bad, as though we have something to hide. And this move suspiciously gives the accuser fuel. I simply don't get it. I happily showed my ID today....AND VOTED. If you don't have ID by now....THEN YOUR A$$ DOESN'T DESERVE TO VOTE!

People need to show ID to cash a check, apply for welfare, social security, etc. I can't imagine there are many people who do not have some form of government ID! So, I think anyone who wants to know voters are legitimate--those eligible to vote are the actual ones voting.
